How a teacher is defeating "can't" in her classroom

How a teacher is defeating

Jenna Katlin is a dedicated 7th-grade math teacher at Wahiawa Middle School on the enchanting island of O'ahu.

Ms. Katlin reached out to us after coming across our CAN. sticker and feeling compelled to learn more about our mission. In her email, she shared her unique classroom mantra: "You cannot say, 'I CAN'T.'" Instead, students who uttered those limiting words were encouraged to take action by writing down two things they believed they CAN do, whether math-related or not, and depositing them into the "I CAN" jar. This simple yet powerful practice exemplified Ms. Katlin's commitment to nurturing a growth mindset and empowering her students to recognize their potential.

Her enthusiasm for our mission and our efforts in Aina-based education deeply resonated with us. We were moved by her dedication to instilling a #canperiod mindset in her students and knew we had to respond.

A few weeks ago, Braddah Keali'i from our team had the privilege of visiting Wahiawa Middle School to connect with Ms. Katlin and her 120 students. Armed with lanyards, empowering stickers, and goal cards to inspire students to dream big, Braddah Keali'i embarked on a mission to spread the Spirit of CAN. to these eager young minds.

Collaborating with Ms. Katlin and her students was an incredible experience that reaffirmed our belief in the power of positivity and collaboration. Together, we celebrated the importance of resilience, growth, and possibility.

This heartwarming collaboration serves as a reminder that the Spirit of CAN resides within all of us, ready to ignite positive change and inspire others to embrace a #canperiod mindset.

To Ms. Katlin and all the educators who tirelessly nurture and empower the next generation, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your dedication and passion are truly remarkable, and we're honored to stand alongside you in spreading the Spirit of CAN.

And to our supporters and friends, thank you for joining us on this journey. Together, we can continue to spread positivity, empowerment, and the unwavering belief that with the right mindset, anything is possible.
